Tanzanian traders urged to observe fairness to heighten the business environment

DAR ES SALAAM: LARGE, medium, and small-scale traders have been urged to observe principles of fairness, transparency and integrity in conducting their businesses to ensure a productive and competitive business environment.
The call was made today, March 3, 2026, during a capacity-building seminar aimed at educating traders on their rights and responsibilities in promoting the country’s economic growth.
Speaking to media outlets, the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Sempeo Manongi, said traders play a significant role in driving economic development and the overall welfare of the nation.
He emphasized that cooperation between the government and the private sector is a key pillar for economic success.

Mr Manongi explained that the government has continued to improve policies, laws, and regulations to create a conducive environment that enables traders to operate more efficiently.
He noted that commercial competition systems have been strengthened to ensure that no favoritism could undermine the free market.

“The government has established a favourable environment for fair business competition and recognizes that the country’s economy depends on equal opportunities for all stakeholders,” he said.
He added that it is important for traders to adhere to ethical standards and established procedures to avoid unnecessary disputes that could hinder the growth of their businesses.
Furthermore, he encouraged traders to take advantage of training opportunities and seminars regularly organized by the Government to enhance their understanding of legal matters, competition and commercial rights. He said such knowledge would help them make informed decisions for sustainable business growth.
He reiterated that the government will continue working closely with various stakeholders to ensure the business environment remains friendly and fairly competitive for all, ultimately contributing to Tanzania’s economic growth and job creation for its citizens.
