MOSHI: Tanzanian athlete Transfora Ngimbudzi set a new record at the prestigious Fulham 10K Topflight Races held in the United Kingdom over the weekend, completing the contest in just 31:53 minutes.

Transfora, a Police Constable with Tanzania’s Police Force, clinched a gold medal and was declared the winner of the competition, which featured 14 contestants.

She outpaced her closest rival, Martina Conner from Great Britain, who clocked 34:00 minutes, and Kossana Weir, who secured third place.

In a remarkable achievement, Mgimbudzi’s time set a new course record, surpassing last year’s best time of 33:11, previously set by a Kenyan athlete.

For her victory and record-breaking performance, she received 2.18m/- (£650), including a bonus for setting the new course record.

Speaking at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) upon her return, Constable Mgimbudzi attributed her triumph to discipline and meticulous preparation, promising even better performances in future competitions.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Alphonce Bandya, representing the Kilimanjaro Regional Police Commander, commended Mgimbudzi’s success and reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to supporting its athletes in achieving greater accomplishments.

Assistant Team Coach Sergeant Oswald highlighted that the team’s success was a result of discipline during training, attentiveness, and unwavering support from the Police Force leadership.

The 2024 Fulham 10K Top Flight Races attracted participants from five countries: Tanzania (1), the UK (10), Ireland (1), France (1), and Canada (1).
