Kenyan athletes conquer CRDB Marathon’s podium
DAR ES SALAAM: KENYAN athletes conquered the CRDB International Marathon after winning the 42km marathon in both men and women’s categories.
The Kenyan runners secured a 1-2 victory in women’s category and also sealed another 1-2 victory in men’s category.
In the women’s 42km full marathon , Kenya’s Loyce Kemuma emerged as the winner after clocking 2 hours, 35 minutes and 26 seconds . Her compatriot Jacinta Chepkoech finished second, while Jane Chelangat of Tanzania secured third place.
In the men’s 42-kilometre race, Abraham Kiptum of Kenya claimed first place after clocking 2:15:33. James Mwangi also from Kenya finished second, while Tanzanian Marco Monko came third.
The results underscored Kenya’s dominance in the long-distance 42-kilometre event, although Tanzania secured notable podium finishes through Chelangat and Mwangi.
The marathon attracted more than 17,000 participants from Tanzania and abroad, as part of efforts to encourage public participation in sports while promoting health and community development.
The CRDB International Marathon 2026, organised by CRDB Foundation, was held today, August 16, at Posta Grounds in Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam, and was attended by several government leaders.
The guest of honour was Zanzibar’s Second Vice President, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, who represented the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba. Other government officials in attendance included Zanzibar Minister for Finance and Planning, Juma Malik, and Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Florence Samizi.

In the women’s 21-kilometre race, Rebeca Chepkwemoi of Tanzania took first place, followed by fellow Tanzanian Failuna Matanga in second, while Irene Mkungu of Kenya finished third.
In the men’s 21-kilometre race, Simon Kelenzyoki of Tanzania emerged victorious, followed by Ebel Francis, while Boay Dawi, all from Tanzania, finished third.
In the women’s 10-kilometre race, Transfora Ngimbudzi of Tanzania claimed first place, followed by Anna Dolomongo, with Agness Mwaghui finishing third. All three athletes are Tanzanian.
In the men’s 10-kilometre race, Jumanne Ngoya finished first, followed by Bernard Geay, while Shedrack Hasani came third. All three athletes are from Tanzania.
The CRDB International Marathon has continued to serve as a platform for linking sports with broader community development initiatives, with a focus on health, youth empowerment, sports, innovation and culture.
This year’s results further highlight the competitive strength of Kenyan athletes in East African long-distance running, particularly in the 42-kilometre category, while Tanzania demonstrated strong competitiveness in the 21-kilometre and 10-kilometre races.
