Tanzania, Vietnam begin to implement JPC meeting’s resolutions on political, diplomatic and socio-economic ties

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and Vietnam have agreed to implement resolutions reached during the Second Session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JPC), held in Tanzania from September 21 to 23, 2026, with the aim of strengthening political, diplomatic, economic and social cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, James Millya, on behalf of Tanzania, and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Nguyen Hoang Hiep, on behalf of Vietnam, during a ceremony held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam on September 23, 2026.

Speaking at the event, Millya said Tanzania would continue to benefit from Vietnam’s experience in irrigation farming, improved seed production, research, the use of technology and machinery, as well as access to markets.

He said the cooperation would support the implementation of Tanzania’s Foreign Policy and the National Development Vision 2050.

The meeting identified and agreed on several areas of cooperation, including agriculture, industry, trade and investment, energy, fisheries, livestock, education, mining, the blue economy, defence and security, as well as social affairs.

As part of efforts to strengthen private-sector cooperation, Tanzania’s Mohammed Enterprises and Acros companies signed a commercial agreement with Vietnam’s Intimex.

Vietnam also agreed to expand training opportunities for Tanzanians, particularly in the agricultural sector.

Millya commended the Vietnamese government for its investment in Tanzania’s telecommunications sector through Halotel, saying the investment had helped expand communication services and connect citizens, particularly those in rural areas, to economic opportunities, including markets.

Millya urged the private sector and Tanzanians to take advantage of opportunities arising from the strengthening of cooperation between Tanzania and Vietnam.

For his part, Hiep reaffirmed Vietnam’s readiness to continue working with Tanzania in the agreed areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
