Tanzania uses TVET Conference to advance technical skills that suit global labour market

TIANJIN: TANZANIA seeks a stronger presence in the international cooperation agenda as an endeavour to improve technical and vocational training and equip young people with skills needed to compete in the global labour market.
The Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology Wanu Hafidh Ameir, who is leading the country’s delegation to the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin, China, said Tanzania’s participation should translate into better training opportunities for young people.
She made the remarks on October 15, 2026, while chairing a preparatory meeting for the Tanzanian delegation ahead of the international conference, which runs from October 15 to 17.

Ms Ameir said the strategies and resolutions emerging from the meeting should focus on expanding skills development, technology and training programmes to enable young people to participate effectively in the modern economy and international labour market.
The conference, held under the theme “TVET: Embracing Change, Forging Standards, and Building a Shared Future,” aims to strengthen international cooperation, facilitate the exchange of experience and advance technical and vocational education and training in response to emerging global opportunities and challenges.
It brings together government leaders, heads of vocational education authorities, industry representatives and companies from more than 100 countries.
The meeting is a continuation of similar conferences held in 2022 and 2024. It is organised by China’s Ministry of Education, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and the Tianjin Municipal Government.
Tanzania’s participation provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and explore approaches to improving vocational training in line with changing skills requirements and labour market needs.
