Tanzania U23 upbeat to clear Nigerian hurdle
The country’s Under-23 side are set to silence Nigeria as they play in the second leg of the 2023 Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in Nigeria today.
They go head to head at Lekan Salami Stadium searching for a slot into the final stage of the qualifiers as each is determined to make a breakthrough.
In the first leg at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, the two teams played out to a 1-1 draw which mathematically was a good results for Nigeria as they sourced an away goal which plays a vital role in qualifying matches.
However, all is not over basing on the fact that there are fresh 90 minutes to be played hence the final whistle will judge who goes to the next phase of the qualifiers.
The country’s envoys under the tutelage of Hemed Morocco already pledged to play lungs out so that they get an opportunity to progress through from away territory.
“We have been held to a 1-1 draw here and we can also get a good results in Nigeria… because in a game of football, anything can happen,” said Morocco after the first leg duel in the city.
The Tanzania contingent arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria on Wednesday ready for the match.
Egypt are the current champions of the Under-23 AFCON who together with Gabon and Nigeria have lifted it once apiece.
