Tanzania to construct more courts for land dispute cases

DODOMA: THE government has revealed its plan to construct more primary courts in the coming financial year to open doors for land dispute cases to be heard there.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan made the statement when speaking at the Annual General Meeting of the Tanzania Magistrates and Judges Association (TMJA) today, January 13, 2026, in Dodoma saying that land disputes should be resolved through court hearings, unlike the current system where they are handled by land tribunals.

“Such disputes will be heard by Primary Courts, and the government will have the task of allocating sufficient budget in the coming financial year to construct these Primary Courts, similar to how health centers have been established across the country, so that services can be delivered more efficiently,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of State stressed the importance of judges and magistrates to deliver their services with high professionalism, honesty, patriotism, and obedience to the law and the country’s constitution.

“Not all jobs can be entrusted to people who are under suspicion and the work of judges and magistrates is not among the tasks that can be handled by such individuals,” she said.
