UGANDA: TANZANIA made a spectacular mark in the recently concluded CAF African Schools Football Championship 2024 CECAFA Zone, with boys’ team crowned champions and the girls’ securing an impressive second-place finish in Kitende, Uganda.
They secured the places on December 11 this year, in an event that served as a qualifier for the continental competition scheduled for next year.
The boys’ team emerged as champions, sealing a place at the continental tournament with a 2-0 victory over Rwanda. The crucial win was made possible by goals from Erick Yusuph and Jabiri Farijala, who led Tanzania to the title.
Despite a close and competitive contest, Tanzania’s boys secured six points from three draws and one win against Rwanda, topping the standings in the group stage.
Other teams in the boys’ category were Uganda, Somalia, Burundi and Rwanda. As winners, Tanzania’s boys not only earned a spot in the continental championship but also will take home a cash prize of US dollars 100,000 (equivalent to 237,500,000/-), as announced by CECAFA.
