Tanzania seeks stronger industry-finance links for agro-processing

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration across key sectors to improve productivity and accelerate development in agriculture, livestock and fisheries, with the aim of making the sectors key drivers of Tanzania’s economic growth.

The remarks were made by the Minister for Finance, Mr Khamis Mussa Omar, during a visit to the Dr John Samwel Malecela Grounds in Nzuguni, Dodoma, where he toured exhibitions and activities at the ongoing 33rd International Agriculture Exhibition 2026.

Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Omar said sustainable development cannot be achieved if each sector operates in isolation. He emphasized that stronger collaboration among the agriculture, livestock, fisheries, manufacturing, trade and financial sectors is essential to increase production, promote value addition through agro-processing, and strengthen services that support productivity.

He said the government continues to encourage financial institutions to channel investment into priority areas in order to accelerate growth and enhance productivity across the three sectors.

The Finance Minister also noted that the government is monitoring the use of tractors distributed to farmers to ensure they are deployed in the intended areas and contribute to improving agricultural productivity.

In addition, he commended entrepreneurs producing high-quality goods while stressing the need for comprehensive strategies to expand access to both domestic and international markets. He said stronger market penetration would enhance the competitiveness of locally produced goods and increase their contribution to the national economy.

Mr Omar further emphasized that, alongside increasing production, greater investment is needed in product promotion, market development and improving the business environment to ensure Tanzanian products become more widely recognized and readily available in both local and international markets.
