Tanzania ropes in Algeria’s CAM SARL in producing machinery for processing its agricultural products

ALGIERS: TANZANIA is exploring opportunities to collaborate with Algerian company CAM SARL in the production of specialised machinery for processing and packaging agricultural products produced in Tanzania, as part of efforts to add value to crops before they are exported to international markets.

The development was highlighted by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Algeria, Mobhare Matinyi, following his visit to CAM SARL’s manufacturing plant on the outskirts of Algiers, where he held discussions with the company’s management on the possibility of producing machinery tailored to Tanzania’s needs.

Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Matinyi said Tanzania had put in place policies and strategies to promote value addition to agricultural products before they are marketed internationally.

He listed the products as including fruits, vegetables, spices, grains, cashews, groundnuts, sunflower, tea and coffee.

Matinyi said he was optimistic that cooperation between Tanzania and Algeria would enable CAM SARL to contribute to the development of Tanzania’s agricultural sector, particularly in crop processing and packaging.

For his part, CAM Chief Executive Officer Bouzid Belhadj thanked Ambassador Matinyi for visiting the company and pledged to strengthen cooperation with Tanzania.

Belhadj also said he would visit Tanzania to assess opportunities and existing needs in the agricultural sector and identify areas where the company could collaborate with the country.

CAM SARL uses Algerian experts and technology from Germany, Italy and Spain in the manufacture of its machinery. The company has already begun expanding into neighbouring markets, including Tunisia.
