Tanzania plans to send 130 doctors abroad

The Government is planning to send 139 health staff abroad for a specialized training that seeks to minimize shortage of specialized healthcare professionals in the next two years.

The state funded program is expected to take effect this fiscal year, Minister for Health Ummy Mwalimu told parliamentarians in Dodoma on Thursday.

“Under Samia Super Specialization Health Programme we are determined to address the shortage of specialists in the country.
We will be fully sponsoring 136 staff to study abroad,” she said, detailing that the ministry is currently assessing the health sector workforce and taking action including reallocating the professionals.
