Tanzania plans to construct 1,360 classrooms in efforts to implement the 10-year education policy

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government plans to construct 1,360 classrooms across the country in the 2026/2027 financial year as part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of the compulsory 10-year education policy and expand learning infrastructure in primary and secondary schools.
This was said by the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Adolf Mkenda when presenting the Ministry’s budget estimates in the Parliament in Dodoma today, adding that the move is aimed at improving the learning environment and increasing access to quality education services for students nationwide.

In addition, the minister said that the government will also build 17 dormitories in secondary schools and 33 teachers’ houses to improve working and living conditions for teachers, particularly in areas facing infrastructure challenges.
The minister also said that the ministry plans to establish 50 teachers’ centres in district councils to boost teacher motivation and enhance the delivery of education services across the country.
