Tanzania notes remarkable progress in AFCON 2027 preps

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government said preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 are progressing well, with significant efforts underway to ensure stadium infrastructure is completed on time.

The assurance was made today by the Deputy Minister of the ministry, Hamis Mwinjuma, after inspecting the ongoing  renovation works at Benjamin Mkapa and Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Mwinjuma said the government continues to invest heavily in the construction and renovation of sports infrastructure to ensure that Tanzania is fully prepared to host the continent’s major football tournament.

The AFCON 2027 tournament is expected to be jointly hosted by three East African countries — Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda — under a joint bid known as the Pamoja Bid. The initiative is anticipated to create significant opportunities for the development of sports, economic growth, and tourism across the East African region.

The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all preparations are completed on schedule so that Tanzania can successfully host the historic continental football tournament.
