Tanzania maintains 5th place at All Africa Challenge Trophy

RABAT: ON Friday, Tanzania ladies’ golf team held onto their 5th position after the second round of the biannual 2024 All Africa Challenge Trophy at the Tazegzout Golf Club in Agadir, Morocco.
Competing among 20 nations in the 54-hole, three-day competition, teams continued to display exceptional golfing talent.
Tanzania’s standout performer this round was Neema Olomi, who carded an impressive 76 gross. She was followed by Madina Iddi, who shot an 81, contributing to the team’s total score of 318 (161, 157) after second round.
The team’s best two individual scores count for the overall total in each round. Team captain Hawa Wanyeche had another challenging day, finishing with an 85 gross.
Morocco overtook South Africa to claim the top spot on the leader board with a total of 282. After starting with 143 strokes on Thursday, the host nation improved with a 139 on Friday.
Defending champions South Africa, who opened with a strong 141 on day one, scored 145 on Friday, bringing their total to 286, four strokes behind the leaders heading into the Saturday final round.
Kenya maintained their third-place position with a total of 289, seven shots behind Morocco and three behind South Africa. The team started with 146 on Thursday and improved to 143 on Friday.
This year’s competition has been particularly close, with Morocco, South Africa and Kenya all vying for the title. Kenya, who finished fourth behind Tanzania in the 2022 tournament held in Dar es Salaam, has been impressive this time around.
Uganda also showed significant improvement, climbing from 6th to 4th place with a total score of 316 (161, 155).

The performance of East African nations has been a highlight, with three teams—Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda—occupying spots in the top five.
Zimbabwe slipped from 4th to 6th place with a total of 323 (158, 165), 7th: Egypt – 336 (163, 173), 8th: Zambia – 341 (172, 169), 9th: Tunisia – 342 (174, 168) and 10th: Botswana – 345 (172, 173).
Other second-round results include: 11th: Nigeria – 357 (180, 177), 12th: Mauritius – 362 (177, 185), 13th: Rwanda – 366 (183, 183), 14th: Ghana – 375 (186, 189), 15th: Côte d’Ivoire – 383 (205, 178), 16th: Namibia – 394 (190, 204), 17th: Gabon – 405 (209, 196), 18th: Togo – 410 (207, 203), 19th: Cameroon – 452 (225, 227) and 20th: Angola – 509 (270, 239).
In the 2022 AACT held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania achieved an impressive 3rd place overall with a total score of 455, finishing behind champions South Africa (444) and runners-up Morocco (449).
