Tanzania starts 5th at the AllAfrica Challenge Trophy 2024

MOROCCO: TANZANIA began in 5th place after the first round of the 2024 All-Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) at the Tazegzout Golf Club in Agadir, Morocco, on Thursday.

The opening round featured thrilling competition among 20 nations, as teams showcased exceptional golfing talent in the prestigious biannual tournament.

Tanzania’s team comprising Madina Iddi, Neema Olomi and captain Hawa Wanyeche delivered a commendable performance on the challenging course, finishing 5th after the first round of the three-day 54-hole tournament.

The team score is determined by counting the two best individual scores in each round. Tanzania posted a total score of 161, with Madina contributing 80 strokes and Neema 81. Captain Hawa had a tough day, carding 86 strokes, which did not count toward the team’s total.

Defending champions South Africa took an early lead with a commanding total of 141, narrowly edging out second-placed Morocco, who scored 143. Kenya followed closely in 3rd place with 146, while Zimbabwe secured 4th with 158, just three strokes ahead of Tanzania and 6th-placed Uganda, who also had a total of 161.

Tanzania’s performance highlighted the team’s resilience, but they will need to dig deep to push into the top three and maintain a strong finish.
