Tanzania lures Irish investment in horticulture, vegetable farming

ARUSHA: THE Republic of Ireland plans to invest in vegetable farming and horticulture in Tanzania, as well as other economic and social opportunities.

Ireland’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Nicola Brennan, announced this today, March 9, 2026, in Arusha during her meeting with the Regional Commissioner of Arusha, Amos Makalla, stating that the purpose of the visit is to strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation between Tanzania and Ireland.

During their discussions, Mr Makalla commended Ireland for remaining a development partner in Tanzania, saying the arrival of the Minister reflects the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

He urged Ireland to continue investing and take advantage of the economic and social opportunities available in the Arusha Region.

Moreover, he briefed Ambassador Brennan on the security and stability situation and informed her about road infrastructure projects in Ngorongoro Conservation Area, explaining that the government is currently constructing paved roads connecting the Ngorongoro and Serengeti conservation areas to facilitate year-round tourism activities.

She also pledged to further expand and deepen collaboration with Tanzania to benefit citizens on both sides.

In retrospect, the Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage with special responsibility for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, is expected to begin a working visit to Arusha Region starting tomorrow, March 10, 2026, where he will meet with conservation stakeholders as well as members of the Irish community residing in Arusha.
