Tanzania Ladies Open Golf Tournament 2024 winds up in Arusha
ARUSHA: THE three-day Tanzania Ladies Open Golf Tournament concluded over the weekend in Arusha, with National Bank of Commerce (NBC), as the main sponsor, pledging to further enhance the tournament to ensure amplified quality and competitiveness that will attract more participants from within and outside the country.
The event, held at the Gymkhana Golf Club in Arusha, successfully drew participants from all golf clubs across the country, as well as players from neighbouring countries like Kenya and Uganda.
Mercy Nyanchama from Kenya emerged as the overall winner of the tournament. Speaking at a brief award ceremony for the tournament winners, the NBC Bank Corporate Relations Manager, Gerald Tarimo, commended the participants and winners, and expressed the bank’s commitment to continue supporting the tournament, including through further improvements, as part of its efforts to promote women’s participation in sports.
“In addition to being impressed by the large number of participants, we were also highly impressed by the excellent organisation that fostered the intended level of competition, as the participants did not face any challenges that could have affected their playing ability. “NBC has often presented various prizes to male winners in the three leagues we sponsor in the country, including the NBC Premier League, so having the opportunity to enjoy and present awards to women winners like today is also a great joy for us,” he said.
According to Tarimo, following the continued success of the bank’s sponsorship of golf in the country, NBC intends to further collaborate with various stakeholders in the sport to facilitate more tournaments of even higher quality.

This is aimed at stimulating the growth of the game and unearthing new talents, including among young golfers. On her part, the President of the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), Queen Siraki, congratulated the participants and winners, including those from outside the country and expressed gratitude to various stakeholders who made the tournament a success.
Furthermore, Siraki appealed to the community, especially women, to participate more in the growing sport, urging them not to be deterred by the long-held notion that golf is exclusive to the wealthy or men only.
“The excellent organisation, including the provision of high-quality prizes, is the impetus to continue attracting more participants from within and outside the country, and for this, we are very grateful to our sponsors, particularly NBC.’’
“It is our hope that they will continue to support us even more in future tournaments, as we anticipate even greater achievements due to the significant awakening being witnessed, with a huge increase in players and new talents in this sport,” she said.
