TRU to unveil first ever national women’s rug
DAR ES SALAAM: FOR the first time in history, the Tanzania Rugby Union (TRU) is set to unveil the official National Women’s Rugby Team kit, sponsored by the French sportswear brand Sergio Mat.
The historic event will take place today at the Slow Leopard hotel in Dar es Salaam.
TRU’s member in charge of women’s development, Fatma El-Kindiy announced that preparations for this landmark event are complete.
“We are excited to unveil the first-ever official national women’s rugby team kit, marking a significant milestone for women’s rugby in Tanzania,” she said.
The event will be attended by representatives from the National Sports Council (NSC) and key members of the TRU.
Selected players from the women’s rugby team will be present to showcase the new kit, though this group does not yet represent the final official squad.
El-Kindiy highlighted the importance of this sponsorship, noting that it signifies growing support for women’s rugby and the development of female athletes on the national stage.
“The partnership with Sergio Mat reflects a promising future for the women’s game as it aims to gain international recognition,” she explained.
Having been involved in rugby since 2015, El- Kindiy’s passion for the sport grew during her time with Gaborone Rugby Football Club in Botswana.
Since returning to Tanzania and joining the TRU, she has been instrumental in establishing the national women’s team and expanding rugby outreach in schools and communities.
