Tanzania intensifies measures against Ebola threat now affecting its neighbours

BRAZZAVILLE: THE Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Florence Samizi has said that the government has intensified measures to prevent and strengthen preparedness against the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus strain currently affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
The Deputy Minister made the statement during a discussion on the Ebola outbreak held in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo where she participated virtually from Dodoma.
During the discussion, Dr Samizi said that Tanzania expresses solidarity with the governments and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda following the outbreak, while extending condolences to families who lost loved ones and to frontline health workers battling the disease.
Additionally, she said that Tanzania recognises the coordination efforts being undertaken by the World Health Organization and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in responding to the outbreak.
She also stated that Tanzania would continue cooperating with regional and international partners and implementing joint emergency response measures aimed at protecting public health and strengthening regional health security.
