Tanzania, India use IEW 2026 to deepen ties in the energy sector

DELHI: THE Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, has participated in the opening of the India Energy Week (IEW 2026), an event aimed at discussing and formulating joint strategies to develop the energy sector sustainably and inclusively, while highlighting various investment opportunities in partner countries and the best ways to access them.
The event was officially opened today, January 27, 2026, by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in the state of Goa, India. The meeting was attended by participants from over 125 countries, including government leaders, energy experts, investors, and private sector stakeholders.
During the event, Deputy Minister Makamba was accompanied by Tanzania’s Ambassador to India, Anisa Mbega; Director General of the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA), Dr. James Andilile; Assistant Commissioner for Electricity Development from the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Styden Rwebangila; as well as other experts from the Ministry of Energy, Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), and the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA).

Tanzania’s participation in IEW 2026 reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation, attracting investment in the energy sector, and sharing experiences and technologies that will drive the sustainable development of the sector in the country.
