Tanzania improves infrastructure of its 15 Universities

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government is constructing 26 new dormitories across 12 university campuses in its efforts to address the student accommodation shortages in public universities countrywide.

The statement was made today in Parliament in Dodoma by the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, while responding to a question from Special Seats MP, Dr. Pauline Nahato, who sought to understand the government’s plans to reduce the shortage of dormitories in public universities.

Professor Mkenda stated that once completed, these dormitories will significantly alleviate the congestion of students without accommodation, with the new dormitories set to accommodate 5,987 students at a time.

Additionally, Minister Mkenda called on the private sector to partner with the government by investing in the construction of student hostels in universities, in order to increase the availability of accommodation services and improve the learning environment for students across the country.
