Tanzania hands over 10m/- relief to ailing Zahir Zorro

DAR ES SALAAM: Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, has visited veteran dance music musician Zahir Ally Zorro at his home in Kigamboni, Dar es Salaam, to check on his health.

Zahir Zorro of Mapenzi ya Adamu na Eva fame is a renowned figure in Tanzanian dance music, having performed with Super Vea, Orchestra Kimulimuli, and Samburuma.

During the visit, Mwinjuma handed over 10m/- in cash to Zahir Zorro as a message of sympathy and comfort from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, and wished him a speedy recovery.

Speaking after the visit, Mwinjuma said the government continues to recognize and value the significant contribution made by veteran artists in promoting and preserving Tanzania’s arts and cultural heritage.

He emphasized that such artists are an important national asset and deserve recognition and support, especially when they face health or social challenges.

For his part, Zahir Zorro expressed gratitude to President Samia and the government for their concern and support, noting that the assistance has brought great comfort to him and his family during the difficult period he is currently going through.
