Tanzania: EWURA announces new fuel prices

DAR ES SALAAM: The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced a decrease in the cap prices of petroleum products in Tanzania, effective from Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

The new prices show that motorists in Dar es Salaam will now pay 3,210/- for a liter of petrol and 3,115/- for a liter of diesel, while kerosene will be priced at 3,261/- per liter.

Previously, a liter of petrol was sold at 3,261/-, and diesel was priced at 3,122/- per liter in Dar es Salaam.

EWURA attributes these price changes to a decrease in oil prices (FOB) in the world market, with a weighted average reduction of 5.92 percent for petrol and 0.65 percent with no changes for kerosene.

Additionally, the depreciation of the Tanzanian Shilling against the US Dollar by 0.6 per cent and an increase in premiums for the importation of petroleum products by an average of 1.60 percent for petrol and 3.35 percent for diesel at Dar es Salaam Port have also contributed to the price adjustments.

According to EWURA, a decrease in premiums by 11.75 percent for petrol and 11.75 percent for diesel at Tanga Port and an increase in premiums by an average of 11.25 percent for petrol and 11.22 percent for diesel at Mtwara Port also contributed to the price changes.

Petroleum product prices for other cities and towns will be as follows: petrol prices in Tanga will be 3,210/- and in Mtwara, 3,212/-, while customers in Tanga and Mtwara will pay 3,124/- respectively for a liter of diesel.
