Tanzania embarks on a pension verification exercise, instructs retirees to complete process before July 15

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Ministry of Finance has announced the second phase of a nationwide pension verification exercise targeting retirees and other beneficiaries paid through the Treasury, urging those who missed the first phase to complete the process before July 15, 2026.

The exercise, which runs from June 1 to July 15, 2026, covers retired public servants receiving Treasury pensions, disability pension beneficiaries, widows and widowers receiving Treasury pensions both within and outside Tanzania who were not verified during the first phase conducted between January 15 and May 15, 2026.

A statement by the ministry in Dar es Salaam stated that  retirees receiving retirement and disability pensions are required to complete the verification process through commercial banks’ mobile applications or by visiting branches where they receive their monthly pension payments.

“Beneficiaries are advised to complete the exercise before the deadline to avoid disruptions in pension services,” part of the statement read.

Additionally, the ministry stated that retirees facing challenges related to fingerprint verification or discrepancies in personal details have been directed to visit the nearest Treasury sub-office, the Ministry of Finance headquarters, or the President’s Office–Finance and Planning in Zanzibar.

Moreover, they have been required to present one of the following documents for verification: a National ID card, a copy of their bank card, or a retiree identification card.

The verification exercise aims to update and validate records in the Treasury Pension Register and ensure pension payments are made to legitimate beneficiaries.
