Tanzania disburses 1bn/- to equip 1,977  youth

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government, through the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), has disbursed over 1bn/- to purchase equipment for 1,977 young Tanzanians who are set to complete their apprenticeship training.

This initiative is also expected to benefit more than 2,700 youth groups across the country.

The announcement was made today, April 15, 2025, by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Patrobas Katambi, while contributing to parliamentary discussions in Dodoma on the Prime Minister’s Office budget for the 2025/2026 financial year.

Katambi highlighted the government’s continued commitment to empowering youth by providing them with practical skills and tools necessary to begin economic activities upon completing their training. He added that an additional 637m/- has been set aside specifically for purchasing equipment for youth completing apprenticeship programs.

Addressing the issue of employment, Katambi revealed that the government’s efforts have borne fruit, with over 8,084,000 jobs created in both the public and private sectors. These achievements stem from directives issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and implementation guidelines from the Prime Minister across various sectoral ministries.

He also disclosed that the government is finalizing agreements with eight countries to enable Tanzanian youth to access employment opportunities abroad. So far, more than 500 young people have benefited from the first phase of the initiative.

In conclusion, Katambi commended President Samia for her strong leadership and wise decisions, which have significantly advanced the employment sector and youth development in the country, describing her as a visionary and results-driven leader.
