Tanzania directs traders to unveil challenges for them to contribute effectively to its economy

MTWARA: TRADERS have been urged to present challenges affecting their businesses to leaders and authorities at various levels within their local areas before escalating them to higher-level government officials.
The call was made on September 9, 2026, by Mtwara Regional Administrative Secretary, Bahati Geuzye, during a working meeting that brought together investment stakeholders and traders in Mtwara Region. The meeting was organised by the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA).
Speaking at the meeting, Director of the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Fadhili Chilumba, said the private sector plays a critical role in the country’s economic development. He said the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 has assigned the private sector a major role, with the aim of increasing its contribution to the country’s economy to 70 percent.
Chilumba added that the President’s Office for Planning and Investment has begun implementing measures to ensure that the private sector makes a greater contribution to the economy through the development of appropriate policies, guidelines and strategies.
Meanwhile, TISEZA Southern Zone Manager Valentine Kagombora said the meeting was aimed at discussing ways to improve the investment environment, eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, enhance transparency and efficiency, attract productive investment and contribute to the implementation of Tanzania Development Vision 2050.
Msanga Mkuu Ward Councillor Mahmoud Sinani, who attended the meeting, commended the government for creating a more favourable investment environment in Mtwara Region, including improvements to the port and airport.
Sinani added that the establishment and operations of TISEZA in the region would further accelerate economic growth and development.
