Tanzania directs manufacturers to use the TBS service in the metrology field
DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzanian government has instructed investors and manufacturers operating in the country to effectively utilise services offered by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards, particularly in the field of measurements (metrology), following its international recognition.
Speaking to media outlets in Dar es Salaam, TBS Chief Metrology Officer, Joseph Kadenge, said that metrology—the science of measurement—is one of the four key pillars of quality, ensuring accuracy in machines used in production processes.
He explained that product quality begins with the machines used in manufacturing.
If the machines do not have accurate measurements, the quality of the final products is likely to be compromised.

Kadenge further noted that TBS operates the National Metrology Laboratory, which has gained international recognition through the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, with its measurement capabilities listed in a global database.
Additionally, the laboratory has been accredited by the Southern African Development Community Accreditation Service, a regional body responsible for certifying quality standards across SADC countries.
This accreditation confirms the reliability of TBS services and assures investors that measurement services meet internationally accepted standards.
Following these achievements, Kadenge called on investors and manufacturers to invest in Tanzania with confidence, emphasising that calibration services are readily available and meet global standards.
