Tanzania commits to maintain its strong strategic cooperation with as it marks its 80th anniversary

INDIA: TANZANIA  is committed to strengthening its strategic cooperation with India, particularly in trade and investment, in an effort to promote sustainable development and improve the livelihoods of citizens in both countries, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo has said.

Minister Kombo made the remarks during celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of India’s independence, where he congratulated the country on the achievements it has recorded over more than eight decades of nation-building.

He said India has made significant progress in building a strong democratic nation, a growing economy, and development systems driven by science, technology and innovation.

According to Minister Kombo, India’s achievements in science, technology, education, healthcare, agriculture, industry and democratic governance continue to provide an example for Tanzania and other countries to emulate.

He stressed that independence should not be viewed merely as a historical event, but as an ongoing journey that requires commitment, resilience, innovation and a genuine determination to serve society.

Minister Kombo also commended the Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, for his efforts to strengthen the longstanding historical and friendly relations between Tanzania and India.

He cited among the initiatives the facilitation of the visit by Zanzibar President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi to India in July 2026, as well as training programmes for 30 Foreign Service officers aimed at strengthening capacity and promoting cooperation in diplomacy, education and development.

Available figures show that India is among Tanzania’s top five investors, with investments estimated at $4.7 billion through 814 projects.

The investments are concentrated mainly in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and agriculture, sectors considered critical to economic growth and job creation.

Tanzania also receives more than 1,000 training opportunities from India every year in various fields, including information and communication technology, defence and security, agriculture, education and healthcare.

For his part, the Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, said India remains committed to further strengthening cooperation with Tanzania in trade, investment and technology.

He said the partnership also seeks to expand opportunities for digital development and ensure that citizens of both Tanzania and India benefit more from technology in their economic and social activities.

The growing cooperation is part of efforts by the two countries to leverage their longstanding relations to promote trade, investment, skills development and technology for mutual benefit.
