Tanzania begins honouring retired leaders and their families

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister of State in the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete, has paid courtesy visits to the widows of former top national leaders, in line with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive to honour and care for retired leaders and their families.
In his visit, the minister met Mrs Salma Omar Ali Juma, widow of the late Dr Omar Ali Juma, former Vice President of Tanzania, at her Msasani residence, and Mrs Regina Lowassa, widow of the late Edward Lowassa, former Prime Minister of Tanzania, at her home in Masaki.

Speaking during the visits, Mr Kikwete said his office is implementing President Samia’s instructions to recognise the contribution of retired national leaders and ensure their spouses are cared for in accordance with the law.

Additionally, he said that the main goal of the visits is to convey the President’s greetings and her instructions to check on their well-being, listen to any challenges they may be facing and seek solutions.
Elaborating, he said that the President deeply values the service rendered by retired national leaders and their families.
Mrs Regina Lowassa, for her part, expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her continued support to the family of the late Edward Lowassa, saying the government has consistently stood with them.
