Tanzania, Australia renew strong ties in mining sector by transforming mineral wealth into long-term economic growth.

DODOMA: TANZANIA and Australia have reaffirmed their strong cooperation in the mining sector, with renewed commitments to deepen collaboration in investment, mineral exploration, technology transfer and skills development aimed at transforming the country’s mineral wealth into long-term economic growth.
The reaffirmation was made today in Dodoma during a farewell meeting between Deputy Minister for Minerals, Steven Kiruswa, and outgoing Australian Ambassador to Tanzania, Jenny Da Rin where among many other things, the discussions reflected on years of bilateral cooperation that have supported key areas including mineral exploration, capacity building, and human capital development within Tanzania’s mining industry.
Both sides acknowledged that the partnership has played a significant role in strengthening Tanzania’s mining sector through technical support, knowledge exchange, and increased investment interest, all of which are central to the country’s ambition of becoming a competitive global mining destination.
Information from the ministry of Minerals stated that a key highlight of the meeting was the emphasis on expanding opportunities for Tanzanians to access Australia’s education, training, and professional development programmes.
According to the discussions, such opportunities remain critical in building a new generation of skilled mining professionals and industry leaders capable of driving sector transformation.
During the discussions, the government reiterated its commitment to maintaining a conducive investment environment while strengthening international partnerships that deliver mutual benefits.
Officials stressed that continued collaboration with Australia remains vital in accelerating innovation and unlocking the full potential of Tanzania’s mineral resources.
