Tanzania assures the timely and efficient implementation of World Bank projects

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has promised to continue its collaboration with the World Bank in implementing development projects jointly undertaken by Tanzania and the bank efficiently on time and to a standard.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, made the statement during the Country Portfolio Performance Review (CPPR) meeting, held at the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) headquarters in Dar es Salaam, aimed at identifying key systemic challenges hindering project implementation and developing a joint action plan to address them.

Elaborating, the PS noted that currently the government is implementing a total of 35 projects funded by the World Bank, of which 29 are national projects targeting various social and economic sectors.

She further said that six projects are regional, all designed to accelerate the country’s sustainable development.

Additionally, Dr Natu said that the projects are expected to contribute to social and economic growth while also advancing the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, the Zanzibar Development Vision 2050, the Third National Five-Year Development Plan (2021/22–2025/26), as well as the ZADEP 2021–2026.

For her part, the World Bank’s Operations Manager for Southern Africa,  Milena Stefanova, commended the Government for its strong cooperation in project execution, noting that the World Bank recognizes and appreciates the collaboration provided by Tanzania in project implementation, strengthening joint structures of work, and ensuring that development objectives are achieved effectively.
