HANDENI: THE Tanzania Police Force, through its Traffic Division, has announced that it will not hesitate to take strict legal measures against drivers of motor vehicles, especially those transporting passengers, if found overloading beyond the permitted capacity.
The penalties include fines and even the revocation of driver’s licenses.

ACP Mwakabonga urged all public transport drivers to strictly adhere to the guidelines and regulations set by the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA), highlighting that these rules are essential for protecting passengers’ lives and preventing road accidents.
“We are aware that this is a high-travel season with an increased number of public transport users, but that does not give drivers the right to break the law. It is their responsibility to follow all safety protocols, and as the traffic unit, we are ready to take firm action against any violators,” Mwakabonga stressed.
In addition, he warned against speeding, describing it as a major cause of road accidents. He called on drivers to exercise caution and comply with safety regulations to protect their own lives, those of their passengers, and other road users.
Overall, the Police Force has committed to strengthening road safety, especially during this period of increased travel activity, intending to prevent accidents and safeguard the lives of Tanzanians.
