Tanzania announces plan to evacuate citizens in Israel, neigbouring areas
DODOMA: TANZANIA announces a plan for evacuating its citizens living in Israel and neighboring areas amid the escalating violence in the region.
According to the BBC, Hamas’ attack on Israel on 7 October killed at least 1,300 people while several were abducted.
The broadcaster also reported that by Saturday, 14 October 2023, more than 2,215 people had been killed in Gaza since Israel launched retaliatory air strikes and a ground offensive is also expected.
“Following deteriorating security in Israel and neighboring areas, the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has prepared a plan to return Tanzanians living in Israel and neighboring areas,” a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation’s communication unit says.
Tanzania, according to Saturday’s statement, unveils an evacuation plan now after assessing the current situation and establishing that it was the right moment for executing it.
The Ministry has, however, informed Tanzanians who are ready to return home to register themselves at the Tanzania’s Embassy located in Tel Aviv, Israel via email address: telaviv@nje.go.tz or telephone number: +972 533 044 978 or +972 507 650 072, before 15 October 2023 midnight.
