Tanzania and Egypt collaborate to provide specialist brain services

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Muhimbili Orthopedic and Brain Institute (MOI), the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), and the Egyptian Defence Force have agreed to collaborate in providing specialist and specialized bone, brain, spine, and neurological services to citizens.

This was stated by the Executive Director of the MOI, Ambassador Dr. Mpoki Ulisubisya during the cooperation talks between the three institutions.

Through the cooperation, experts from Tanzania and Egypt will collaborate in the areas of specialist and specialized surgery and diseases of the brain, spine, nerves and bones.

The cooperation also aims to expand the scope of cooperation and build the capacity of local experts through practical training (sets), workshops, and exchange of professional experiences.

Speaking at the cooperation session, Dr. Mpoki said that the cooperation is an important step in strengthening health services in Tanzania, especially in specialist and specialized bone and brain services.

“Through this partnership, we aim to increase efficiency in the provision of specialist services, reduce the number of patients sent abroad,” said Dr. Mpoki, and added:”More than 98 percent of orthopedic patients are treated in Tanzania through our MOI institution and 97 percent of brain and nervous system patients are treated in the country.”

For his part, the head of the expedition from the Egyptian Army, Major General Wael Abdallah Mohamed Aly who was accompanied by a team of doctors from Egypt and Brigadier General AM Katua who is the Head of the Military Medical College (JETTZ), said he was pleased with the specialist and specialist services provided by the MOI and believes that through this partnership it will bring positive results in the field of health between all three parties.

“I am happy to be here today, this partnership is important for all parties because our and your experts will be able to meet and exchange experiences,” Major General Wael.

This partnership aims to increase efficiency in the provision of services and exchange experiences among these institutions.
