Tanzania allocates 3.83bn for renovation of the PCCB offices

GEITA: THE Tanzanian government has allocated 3.82bn/- in the 2025/2026 financial year for the construction and renovation of offices for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), as part of efforts to improve the institution’s working environment.
The amount released by March 2026 represents 63.8 percent of the 6bn/- development budget allocated to PCCB for the current financial year.
PCCB Director General, Crispin Chalamila, announced this during the inauguration of a new PCCB office in Nyang’hwale District, which was constructed at a cost of 386m/-.
Chalamila said the construction of the offices is part of the bureau’s efforts to address the shortage of office buildings at regional and district levels, a situation that has forced many PCCB offices to operate from rented premises.
He explained that the institution has often faced challenges related to rent increases, particularly when property owners whose buildings are rented by PCCB are implicated in corruption allegations. According to him, such situations frequently arise in regions and districts where PCCB does not yet own its own office buildings, affecting the bureau’s operational efficiency and accountability.

Chalamila noted that PCCB currently operates a total of 145 offices across 28 institutional regions, 111 districts, and six special units. However, only 70 of those offices are housed in buildings owned by the bureau.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete, commended PCCB for overseeing the proper use of public funds without intimidation. He said the bureau has contributed to positioning Tanzania among countries at the forefront of promoting good governance by adhering to laws, regulations, and established procedures in executing its mandate.
For his part, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Governance, Constitution and Legal Affairs, Damas Ndumbaro, said the committee will support PCCB in securing sufficient budget allocations to enable the construction of its own offices in various areas and reduce reliance on rented premises.
