Taifa Gas, Barrick boost clean energy awareness

KAHAMA: During International Women’s Week, Taifa Gas and Barrick Gold have reaffirmed their commitment to support President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s environmental conservation initiatives by providing the public with vital training on the safe use of clean cooking energy and gas safety.

At the conclusion of a three-day training session in Kahama District, Shinyanga Region, involving residents near Barrick’s Bulyanhulu mine, Taifa Gas trainer, Praygod Ole Naiko emphasized that the training would raise awareness about the use of clean cooking energy in the community.

“These efforts are designed to ensure the success of the green revolution by encouraging more Tanzanians to switch to clean energy for cooking, contributing to environmental conservation and driving overall economic growth,” said Ole Naiko.

He added that Taifa Gas is committed to supporting the clean energy agenda led by President Samia emphasizing that these efforts align with her visionary leadership and dedication to the clean energy sector nationwide.

Barrick Representative, Ms Mary Lupamba, expressed pride in the company’s role in the ongoing clean energy training program, emphasizing that it will drive positive change for both individuals and the community.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Ms Amina Juma shared that they gained valuable insights into the benefits and safety of gas energy, dispelling the misconception that it is expensive.

Another participant, Mr Joseph Musa from Kakola Village, thanked Taifa Gas and Barrick for bringing the training to rural areas, where many still rely on unsafe charcoal and firewood.

He highlighted that the training, which included both women and men, provided valuable knowledge on the safe use of energy.

The ongoing clean energy education by Taifa Gas and Barrick is part of a continued campaign that began last year during the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, reaching residents nationwide with vital knowledge on clean energy use.

In addition to the training, the initiative seeks to address broader issues such as air pollution, deforestation, and health risks associated with traditional cooking methods.

By shifting to cleaner energy sources, the program not only protects the environment but also improves the quality of life for local communities.

The collaboration between Taifa Gas, Barrick Gold, and local communities is a testament to the power of partnerships in driving social change.

Through these efforts, both companies are fostering a sustainable future, one where clean energy is accessible, safe, and affordable for all Tanzanians.

Looking ahead, Taifa Gas and Barrick are planning to expand their training programmes to other regions, ensuring that more Tanzanians benefit from this transformative initiative.

This will help create lasting change that supports President Samia’s vision of a cleaner, greener, and more prosperous Tanzania.
