Kwimba District hailed for exceeding target in revenue collection

MWANZA: MWANZA Regional Commissioner, Said Mtanda has congratulated Kwimba District Council for achieving revenue collection targets for four consecutive years and has urged them to use the revenue to build major strategic projects.

He made the remarks today, June 24, 2026, while addressing a Special Meeting of the Council of Councillors to discuss the arguments of the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) as well as the Orders of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts (LAAC) 2024/25 where they have received a clean bill of health.

Mr Mtanda said it is time for the council to invest in major projects that will bring in greater collections and increase the scope of revenue collection instead of building many small projects only which are basically not used to recover money.

“Use 40 percent of your collections according to the law to carry out even one major project that will be a landmark like a football field that will ensure revenue collection in the future and not just remain with small projects,”  he said.

In addition, he asked the council to end the water problem at the district hospital within 14 days by ensuring that they increase the distribution scope from the 24-meter deep well source built by donors Doris Mollel Foundation so that it reaches all service delivery buildings.
