TAHA launches a Food Safety Manual as a guidance for agriculture, livestock value chains

ARUSHA: THE Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA), in collaboration with development partner Trias East Africa and other implementing partners under the HUSISHA programme, has officially launched a Food Safety Manual aimed at guiding and strengthening food safety standards across Tanzania’s agriculture and livestock value chains.
Other stakeholders involved in the initiative include PwC, TNCC and MVIWARUSHA.

The launch ceremony was officiated by the representative of the Arusha City Director, Onesmo Mandike, alongside Trias East Africa Regional Director, Ritha Tarimo, and representative of the TAHA Director, Simon Mlay, in Arusha.

According to the organisers, the manual marks an important step towards strengthening food safety in Tanzania by ensuring that food production, harvesting, handling and distribution processes comply with standards that protect consumer health.
They noted that the initiative is expected to help reduce the effects of poor food safety practices, including food-borne diseases, environmental degradation and food losses, while also improving market competitiveness and protecting biodiversity and ecosystems.
