Swahili Encounters to spice up Sauti za Busara in Z’bar

ZANZIBAR: AS the 22nd edition of the Sauti za Busara Festival approaches, the organisers have confirmed that preparations are well underway and promised an even more electrifying package of entertainment for music lovers from around the world.

The festival, set to begin tomorrow and conclude on Sunday, will be hosted across four stages in Zanzibar, including the historic Old Fort, Forodhani, and Fumba Town.

Known for its vibrant mix of cultural fusion, the festival will showcase a thrilling combination of traditional and modern sounds, promising to immerse audiences in the true spice of Zanzibar’s music scene.

A highlight this year will be ‘Swahili Encounters,’ a collaboration project that brings together talented local and international artists to create one-of-a-kind musical compositions.

Under the expert supervision of South African composer and singer, Asanda Mvana (Msaki), this collaboration will be one of the festival’s most anticipated performances.

Drawing artists from Tanzania, South Africa, Sudan and Uganda, Swahili Encounters will create an exciting fusion of different sounds that will electrify the festival’s audience. “This year, we are taking the festival to new heights,” said Lorenz Herrmann, Busara Promotion Director.

“We have curated an extraordinary line-up and the Swahili Encounters collaboration is truly one of the jewels. Under the direction of Msaki, artists from different backgrounds will create new, innovative sounds that will blend seamlessly with Zanzibar’s rich musical heritage. It’s an experience that will leave audiences buzzing with excitement.”

The performances, which will take place on multiple stages, will introduce fresh and unique musical elements that fuse African rhythms with contemporary sounds.

The artists involved include Pendo Hukwe Zawose (Tanzania) on vocals and ngoma, Leah Noahani Zawose (Tanzania) on vocals and ngoma, Muzi (South Africa) on vocals, Mohammed Adam (Sudan) on percussion and vocals and many more.

With such a diverse lineup, Swahili Encounters will highlight the power of music to unite and break barriers, creating unforgettable experiences for all who attend.

The festival is set to offer not only electrifying music but also the rich, spicy flavours of Zanzibar’s cultural heritage.

Festival-goers can expect a sensory feast, from the unique blend of sounds to the unforgettable taste of local Zanzibar delicacies.
