Sauti za Busara Festival 2025: Breathing life into peace, gender equality

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR’S historic Stone Town is set to come alive from February 14-16, 2025, as the 22nd edition of the Sauti za Busara festival kicks off, bringing together an electrifying lineup of world-class African artists.

With the theme ‘Voices for Peace’, the festival promises to be an unforgettable celebration of African unity, culture and the transformative power of music.

This year’s festival features an array of musical styles, ranging from Afrobeat and traditional African rhythms to Taarab and fusion.

In a press briefing, Simai Said Mohamed, Chairman of the Sauti za Busara Board, urged Zanzibar residents to warmly welcome the international visitors expected to attend the festival.

He highlighted that this event is an opportunity to showcase the beauty, culture and economic potential of Zanzibar and Tanzania to the world.

“When people come here, they are coming to experience the beauty of our country, our culture and also to learn about the economic opportunities available here in Zanzibar,” Mohamed stated.

“Sauti za Busara is a platform that connects people from different parts of the world, showcasing the importance of international collaboration through the art of music.”

He further noted that the festival aims to unite Tanzanians through the power of music, promoting social cohesion and fostering a deeper understanding of their own cultural heritage.

“Through Sauti za Busara, we want to highlight the role of music in bringing people together and building a stronger, more inclusive society,” Mohamed added.

The event will open up a variety of opportunities for Zanzibar, with the highlight being the impressive lineup of prominent artists from across the continent. Some of the stars taking centre stage include Thandiswa (South Africa), Blinky Bill (Kenya), Christian Bella (Tanzania), Bokani Dyer (South Africa), Frida Amani (Tanzania) and many others.

The diverse lineup reflects the festival’s commitment to showcasing a broad spectrum of musical traditions, ensuring there’s something for every music lover.

Adding to the excitement, the festival will kick off with a vibrant carnival parade, weaving through the streets of Stone Town, complete with dazzling costumes, energetic drumming and lively dancers.

This opening procession will set the stage for three days of unforgettable performances at the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), a historical landmark in the heart of the island.

The festival’s energy will spill over into the daytime performances at Fumba Town Nyamanzi, offering a unique atmosphere before the evening concerts at the Forodhani stage.
