AS Tanzanian football family celebrates the festive season, it is crystal clear that Fiston Mayele (Young Africans), Moses Phiri (Simba) and Azam’s trainer Kali Ongala gave football fans deserved Christmas and Boxing Day packages through points and beautiful goals.
So far, Simba fans are the happiest in the ongoing league as they have stood 37-times to cheer goals scored by their team, a befitting Christmas reward for them.
This has been made possible as the Msimbazi Street Reds are currently commanding the team-scoring chart having netted more goals than any other with Zambian imported net-burster Phiri the team’s top scorer with 10 goals.
Phiri has already established a strong bond with Simba fans courtesy of his scoring instincts as well his ‘saluting’ celebration style which has earned him a General nickname.
Again, Simba have produced the current top assist Clatous Chama who has recorded 9 assists, a remarkable feat for him and the entire club thereby a remarkable feat for the creative midfielder.
Just next to Simba are Yanga supporters who have celebrated 33-times admiring their players putting the ball behind opponents’ net which is also a befitting Christmas gift to them.
Aside from this, they are also joyous seeing their striker Fiston Mayele leading the top goal scorers list with 13-goals to his name, only three goals away to match his last season’s record when he fired home 16 goals.
Furthermore, Yanga family are heads up during this festive season as they sit at the summit of the table with 44 points from 17 games and could reach 47 points only if they succeed to defeat Azam later today.
The Jangwani street giants have had a good ride so far in the league in reference to the available statistics as they aim to defend the championship they claimed last term to break their own record by winning it for 29th time.
Likewise, Azam passionate fans are enjoying their Christmas day with wide smiles plastered on their faces after witnessing major achievements made by the team under the tutelage of domestic coach Ongala.
He has managed to stamp a number of successes like playing ten straight games, winning eight of them and stamping two draws which is a good trend for a team of Azam calibre.
Similarly, the Chamazi-based family are pleased to see their team occupying third place on the scoring list after netting 25 goals and are still active title contenders of the campaign.
Without doubt, Ongala has contributed a lot to revive Azam to be where it is now and he is among the current best performing domestic coaches that Tanzania is cherishing.
However, the most unheralded record is held by Yanga custodian Djigui Diarra who is credited to have played the ball mostly using his feet than his hands to the extent some of his fans prefer to call him a ‘goalkeeping midfielder’.
On the contrary to the best there is the least success to the fans of Ruvu Shooting and Polisi Tanzania who have been heads down in most matches. Ruvu fans have celebrated 10 times as their team scored that number of goals while Polisi Tanzania delighted their fans 11 times to remain at the bottom of the table.
