SUA don stresses on leadership training

MOROGORO: THE Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) ViceChancellor Prof Raphael Chibunda has stressed on the importance of leadership training saying the move helps in preparing good future leaders.

He said well-prepared leaders contribute greatly to the development of the country in both political and social-economic areas.

He made the remarks yesterday during the opening of leadership training for the university’s leaders and staff. Professor Chibunda said that all those who have been entrusted to be the university’s employees and those who have been given various leadership positions are supposed to commit to their responsibilities with integrity and high professionalism.

“Those who have been given leadership positions should not take it for granted or as a rare opportunity, but you should be committed to carry out duties that you have been entrusted with,” said Prof Chibunda.

Prof Chibunda said that all of the efforts aimed at facilitating the responsibility the university has been given to train experts for the present and future.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University said that the work should be done with great efficiency as the government expects.

“This training is very important, because it will help to empowering those who did have the opportunity to participate in this training before,” said Prof Chibunda.

He said that the threeday training session focused on topics such as understanding the principles of public service ethics, emotional intelligence in leadership, and mental health in leadership.

Prof Chibunda mentioned others such as hospitality and observance of protocols, the role of leaders in addressing disciplinary issues, office confidentiality, integrity, and confidentiality in the workplace.

Assistant Secretary, Leaders’ Ethics, Fabian Pokela, presenting a topic of Code of Ethics for Public Service, said that integrity for leaders and public servants contributes to efficient performance in public institutions in the country.

He said that leaders are supposed to be role models in promoting ethics in the institutions.

Mr Pokela called on public servants in the country, especially leaders, to prioritise integrity as it will help the nation to make rapid progress and advised patriotic leaders to prioritise integrity and to be emulated by society.
