Speaker Tulia pledges support to new FP-ICGLR Secretary General

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Dr. Tulia Ackson, has pledged her full support to the newly appointed Secretary General of the Forum of Parliaments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR), Dr. Deo Mwapinga, as he undertakes his responsibilities.
Dr. Tulia announced her commitment today, May 8, 2025, after hosting Dr. Mwapinga at her office in Dodoma for a discussion.
During their meeting, she congratulated him on his appointment and reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to continued collaboration with regional institutions in promoting democracy, good governance, and sustainable development.

Dr. Deo Mwapinga was elected Secretary General of FP-ICGLR on April 25, 2025, during a high-level meeting of Speakers of Parliaments from member states of the forum, held in Luanda, Angola.
According to the forum’s constitution, he will serve a three-year term, which is renewable under established procedures.
