Six-star Yanga reclaim top spot

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans SC delivered a dominant performance, crushing KenGold 6-1 in a Premier League clash at the KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The resounding victory propelled Yanga back to the top of the league table with 45 points, overtaking Simba SC, who sit second with 43 points.

Azam FC trails in third place with 36 points, while KenGold languishes at the bottom with a mere six points. Yanga started the match with high intensity, immediately applying pressure on KenGold, who opted for a defensive approach.

However, their strategy failed as Yanga took the lead in the first minute through striker Prince Dube. The early goal set the tone for the match, with the hosts dominating possession and attacking relentlessly.

Just five minutes later, Clement Mzize doubled Yanga’s lead after receiving a precise pass from Stephane Aziz Ki. KenGold struggled to contain Yanga’s relentless attack and found themselves on the back foot throughout the first half.

Pacome Zouzoua extended Yanga’s lead in the 35th minute after converting an assist from Dube. KenGold had a rare opportunity to pull one back in the 38th minute, but forward Bilali Abdi squandered a clear chance.

Before heading into halftime, Mzize struck again, netting his second goal of the night, sending Yanga into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.

KenGold made a tactical change at the start of the second half, substituting goalkeeper Castor Mhagama for Mussa Malika. However, the change did little to stop Yanga’s dominance. In the 46th minute, Dube scored his second goal, making it 5-0.

The final blow came in the 85th minute when Duke Abuya netted Yanga’s sixth goal. KenGold managed a consolation goal through Seleman Bwenzi in the 86th minute, but it was too little, too late to alter the outcome.

In another fixture, Tabora United secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Namungo FC. Offen Chikola opened the scoring for Tabora in the 34th minute, followed by a goal from Heritier Makambo in the 52nd minute.

Namungo’s only goal came early in the match, with Jacob Masawe finding the net in the 5th minute.
