Singida BS edge JKT Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM: SINGIDA Black Stars secured a narrow 1-0 victory over JKT Tanzania in the Mainland Premier League match at the Major General Isamuhyo Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The breakthrough came in the 52nd minute, with Jonathan Sowah scoring the only goal of the match.

Sowah, who had previously missed several scoring opportunities in both halves, latched onto a well-placed assist from Josephat Bada, delivering a powerful shot past JKT goalkeeper Yakoub Suleiman to give Singida BS the lead.

Despite the win, Singida BS remains in fifth place in the league standings. They have now accumulated 37 points from 19 matches, just two points behind third-placed Azam FC, who have 39 points from 18 games.

League leaders Simba SC sit at the top with 47 points from 18 matches, while defending champions Young Africans are second, with 46 points from the same number of games.

JKT Tanzania, fresh off a hard-fought draw against Young Africans in their previous match, struggled to replicate that performance.

In the second half, they fought for an equaliser, but their efforts were in vain.

One notable chance came from Hamis Ndemla’s long-range shot, which was expertly saved by Singida BS goalkeeper Obasogie Amas.

Singida’s win follows a disappointing 2-0 loss to KMC, with Oscar Paulo scoring both goals for the hosts. Despite the setback, Singida BS will be looking to continue their push for a higher spot on the league table.

Meanwhile, Young Africans are set to face KMC FC today at the KMC Complex in another crucial match.

The outcome will determine whether they can surpass Simba SC and take the top spot in the league standings.
