Simba,Yanga in epic battle
DAR ES SALAAM: FOOTBALL history will be re-written at the New Amaan Complex today as arch-rivals Simba SC and Young Africans SC clash in a highly anticipated Community Shield match, debuting the Tanzania Football Federation’s (TFF) brand-new digital ticketing system.
Both teams arrived in Zanzibar following two narrow defeats during their respective club day celebrations, adding immense psychological stakes to the season’s curtain-raiser.
Simba Head Coach, Steve Barker, expressed ultimate readiness to kickstart the domestic campaign on a high note, underlining his team’s deep ambition for silverware.
“We’ve earned the right to be playing with them for the Community Shield and we’re very well prepared, very determined to start the season on a positive note,” Barker stated.
He also noted that the tactical showdown with Yanga’s manager adds a unique element to the fixture: “To have the element of two South Africans coming up against one another, it just adds more spice to the match.”
Barker went a step further to trigger psychological warfare, pointing directly at Yanga’s massive transfer expenditure.
“I do believe Coach Manqoba and his coaching staff are under some major pressure in terms of the amount of resources that was spent in this window to achieve success,” he opined. Barker stressed that the titanic clash would be decided by minuscule details: “These games are often determined by fine margins, and the team that handles those fine margins better increases their chances to win.”
Conversely, Yanga Head Coach, Manqoba Mngqithi brushed aside any notions of intimidation, asserting that his rich managerial history makes him immune to the typical derby tension.
“I have been 25 years as a professional coach and I have never really felt pressure as a negative aspect of the game,” Mngqithi declared.
While respecting his opponents, Mngqithi guaranteed a fiercely competitive display to defend their (Yanga) title.
“We did not come here just to participate, we came here to compete and give Simba a big challenge,” it was a declaration by the tactician.
He expressed a desire to present an attractive brand of football. “I want to play a brand of football that will give people a reason to leave their activities and come to the stadium,”Mngqithi said.
Off the pitch, the TFF is transitioning completely from traditional physical cards to an online platform.
TFF Communication Manager, Clifford Ndimbo, confirmed that the digital shift was specifically implemented to streamline entry logistics.
“We are going digital, and we are taking more steps. TFF has seen that in the area of ticketing, let’s go to the system,” Ndimbo explained.
He warned fans that paper passes are obsolete: “The thing about the printed tickets is that you come with your phone and show your ticket.”
To counter black-market scalping, every purchase requires precise data linkup: “If you have bought four tickets, all of them you will have to write their names… it shows completely who owns that ticket.”
Meanwhile, the Mjini Magharibi Regional Police Force has urged rival fans to arrive early to avoid gate congestion. Their official statement noted.
“The Police Force calls upon all fans to reach the stadium early and strictly adhere to established procedures to prevent unnecessary congestion around entry points. Supporters must use official gates and comply with instructions from law enforcement officers and match organisers.”

The police also warned supporters to maintain peace and obey national laws when travelling to the stadium and returning home. Additionally, motorists were strongly cautioned to strictly observe road safety regulations to prevent accidents amidst the heavy matchday traffic.
