Simbachawene urges leader to explore the life of Sokoine
DAR ES SALAAM: The Minister of State in the President’s Office (Public Service Management and Good Governance), George Simbachawene, has called on public leaders to explore the life and leadership of the late Edward Moringe Sokoine through his just launched book.
Speaking at the launch of the book “Edward Moringe Sokoine: His Life and Leadership” today, Mr Simbachawene highlighted the enduring significance of Sokoine’s contributions in shaping Tanzania’s strong foundations, which continue to serve the nation.
“Sokoine was a dedicated leader in the fight against corruption and economic sabotage. His vision offers deep insight into both domestic and African politics,” said Mr Simbachawene.
He added: “I urge all public servants to read this book and embody patriotism in their duties. A principled public servant, like Sokoine, is always recognized”.
The Minister reminded the audience of Sokoine’s unrelenting commitment to combating economic sabotage and instilling discipline within the government.

He expressed his gratitude to those involved in producing the book, including the Uongozi Institute and Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).
“This is a valuable legacy that will be cherished for generations”.
The Uongozi Institute has previously prepared memoirs for notable Tanzanian leaders, including the late Presidents Benjamin Mkapa and Ali Hassan Mwinyi.
Sokoine served as Prime Minister in two terms: from February 13, 1977, to November 7, 1980, and again from February 24, 1983, to April 12, 1984.
He tragically passed away at the age of 45 in a road accident on April 12, 1984, when his car collided with another vehicle on the Dodoma–Dar es Salaam Road.
