Public urged to maintain peace towards civic polls
COAST REGION: IN preparation for the local government elections that are scheduled for November this year, security bodies in the Coast region have called on the public to collaborate with the government to maintain peace throughout the election period.
Speaking during a meeting organised by Kibaha Town District Executive Director (DED) office, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) ACP Pius Lutumo emphasised that police have been engaged in long-term preparations for the upcoming elections.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various political parties, including Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Chama Cha Kijamii (CK), the Civic United Front (CUF), ACT Wazalendo, Sauti ya Umma (SAU) and Tanzania Labour Party (TLP).
Others in attendance were religious leaders, groups representing people with disabilities, government officials and paralegals.
He said the preparations aim at ensuring the elections are carried out peacefully.

“We as law enforcers, we would like to assure the public that we will do our job to ensure peaceful election, it is your responsibility to be good ambassadors of peace and tell the public the importance of maintaining peace especially during the period of elections,” he said.
Mr Mwanyika Senzota from the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) Regional Office reminded the participants on the importance of adhering to the election guidelines and avoiding corruption acts.
“PCCB has been working with all groups of individuals in the communities and other institutions in the whole issue of fighting corruption by providing education.
For the coming elections, we are well prepared to prevent and fight all corruption related acts across the region”, he stated.
For his part, Kibaha Town District Executive Director (DED), Dr Rodgers Shemwelekwa, said his office was progressing well with the election preparations and urged the participants to motivate the public to appear in large number for registration and voting.
