Simba Coach calls for strong mentality ahead of Dar Derby

DAR ES SALAAM: SIMBA’S Coach Fadlu Davids emphasised the importance of mental preparedness ahead of their upcoming Community Shield match against Young Africans on Thursday at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Davids made these comments following his team’s 2-0 victory over Rwandan side APR during the climax of Simba Day at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Saturday.

Reflecting on the match, Davids acknowledged the need for improvement, particularly in their readiness for full 90-minute performances.

“We are not ready for 90 minutes. That’s for sure 90 minutes in relation to how I want to play but we shall be ready for the derby.

Now it’s a mentality. Are you strong enough mentally to be able to go against them (Yanga)? They (Yanga) played some competitive matches as well in South Africa we have seen,” Davids stated.

Assessing his team’s performance against APR, Davids pointed out areas for development. “At this stage of pre-season, APR had already played a tournament, which gave them an edge. In the first half, we were slow and lacked enough scoring opportunities.”

He continued, “During halftime break, we adjusted tactically, aiming to move the ball quicker and penetrate their defence.

We need to apply more pressure and I am satisfied with the progress we have made, but there’s still work to be done.”

APR FC coach Darko Novic also offered his assessment of the match, highlighting Simba’s physical superiority.

“Simba were physically strong, applied pressure effectively, and maintained possession. They were constantly looking for opportunities. It was a valuable lesson for us.”
