Seven people arraigned in court for murder, removing genital organs

SEVEN people in Singida Region were arraigned in court here on charges of murdering a male adult person, removing and taking his genital organs for what is believed to be superstitious beliefs.

Those who appeared before Resident Magistrate’s Court here included Othman Khamisi (50), Shaban Mussa (23), Mussa Swedi (60), Omary Jumanne (29), Salum Ibrahim (33), Oscar Issa (26) and Hamim Yahaya (24), all residents of Majengo area in Manyoni district.

Prosecutor, Assistant Inspector of Police (ACP) Ryoba Mkambala alleged before Senior Resident Magistrate Felician Kapama that on March 3rd this year, the accused jointly and together killed a man whose name is yet to be identified, estimated to be between 40 – 45 years old, while knowing clearly well that it was an offense.

ACP Mkambala further alleged that after the accused had killed the man, they removed his genital organs, pubic hair, nails and the tongue then disappeared into thin air, until when they were arrested by the police.

According to the prosecutor, what the seven accused persons did is against Article 196 and 197 of the Penal Code, Chapter 16.

The accused were not asked to enter any plea due to the fact that the respective court has no legal authority to handle the case.

Prosecutor Mkambala told the court that investigations into the case were still in progress; so he asked for the adjournment to which the court accepted and scheduled it to April 18, this year for yet another mention.
